About ...

Pat moved to Devonport in 1969 when first married. His Wife’s father was the Publican at the Masonic Hotel from 1965 to 1980’s and Pat often worked as a bar manager in his spare time.

Pat and his wife first lived in Ngataringa Rd then moved to Tainui Road Cheltenham. Their Tainui Road home was constructed in 1895 and had been converted into 4 flats in the 1930-1940’s and “modernised” in 1967 style house with its Villa characteristics removed or hidden. In 2006 Pat set about restoring the home to its former glory and the resulting home became one of the iconic homes in the street, with its huge tree in the front yard. This restoration was so successful that some of its features were included in the Building Research of NZ publication Renovate Villas and was asked to do a presentation to Devonport Heritage.

Pat has been a member of Devonport Rotary since 1984 and served as President in 2001-2002. Because of his hotel experience he was the nominated licensee for Rotary’s Devonport Food and Wine Festival for most of its existence. This festival raised over $2 million for local charities through the years it was held.

Pat has enjoyed a career in the building sector, starting out at the age of 15 helping his Dad, then began a career by firstly obtaining his NZCE (Civil) and then working in various companies related to the building industry. For the last 20 years Pat has been a Building Surveyor mainly involved with inspecting and remediating leaky homes. He still has his own business focused on testing leaky windows, importing specialist equipment from the US and was the first in Auckland to do this.

Pat has been aware of the DCW for some time but first came into contact this year when through Rotary he came down to DCW to cut Christmas trees and got to know the team.

Now in semi-retirement Pat finally has the time to volunteer regularly at DCW and contribute his vast knowledge to the benefit of our clients.
